Our office uses the VELscope system, a handheld device that uses fluorescence technology to reveal tissue changes that are invisible to the naked eye. The screening is completely painless, takes just a few minutes, and requires no special preparation on your part.
More than 54,000 Americans are diagnosed with oral or throat cancers each year. Risk factors include tobacco use, heavy alcohol consumption, and HPV. But oral cancer can also occur in people with none of these risk factors. A few extra minutes at each visit is a small investment for the peace of mind it provides.
